To make it compatible with all hair colors, American Color Wave is a bit different from American Wave: It uses a natural-processing waving system rather than ionic waving lotion. But the essence of Color Wave is the same as its originator: To promote fashionable, natural-looking wave and curl patterns that are soft and playful, wearable and enjoyable.

Here’s the answers to the most common questions...

Can Color Wave be used on hair that has been colored with tint and 30 or 40 volume?

Yes, but make sure the hair has positive-influence factors such as healthy density, porosity, elasticity, texture and strength. If the hair is over compromised, do not perform this service. If in doubt, test curl the hair.

Can the Color Wave be used on hair that has been lightened with high lift color and 30 or 40 volume?

Yes, but make sure the hair has influencing factors such as healthy density, porosity, elasticity, texture and strength. If the hair is over compromised, do not perform this service. If in doubt, test curl the hair.

Can the Color Wave be used on hair that has been lightened with lightener/bleach and 10, 20, 30, 40?

Yes, but make sure the hair has positive-influence factors such as healthy density, porosity, elasticity, texture and strength. If the hair is over compromised, do not perform this service. If in doubt, test curl the hair.

If the hair is highlighted (full head, 25%, 50%, 75% etc) can Color Wave be used?

The hair can be processed at any percent but we strongly recommend the use of a leave-in porosity spray to make sure the hair is filled. Make sure the hair is equalized.

Can it be used on hair that has had a keratin smoothing treatment?

Yes, but be sure to use a strong shampoo before the wave, such as a clarifying shampoo (sodium chloride shampoo) to get the hair exceptionally clean.

What is the shelf life, once the Color Wave is opened and not mixed with the deodorizer?

Use within one day of opening.

Is the Color Wave exothermic (self heating)?

No.

Can the Color Wave be used over henna color?

No.

Can the stylist use the waving lotion on double-processed hair?

Yes, but make sure the hair has positive-influence factors such as healthy density, porosity, elasticity, texture and strength. If the hair is over compromised, do not perform the service.

Can the Color Wave be used on top of a sodium hydroxide relaxer?

No, it is not compatible and can cause severe breakage.

Does the Color Wave have to oxidize for 48 hours prior to shampooing?

Yes.

What is the pH of Color Wave?

The pH of the Color wave is 8-8.6.

What type of hair is NOT suitable for the Color Wave?

Over comprised hair, damaged hair, hair with poor elasticity, and sodium hydroxide straightened hair.

Does the Color Wave need heat to process?

No.

Does the Color Wave contain thio or ammonia?

The color wave is thio free and ammonia free. Color Wave creates healthy, beautifully-formed waves.

How is the potential damage mitigated?

By checking the hair consistently every two minutes for elasticity.

How long does the Color Wave last?

Two or three months. The grow out is natural, so you don’t have to redo if you don’t want to. But we think you will.

What are the key ingredients within this natural processing wave?

Cysteamine and Isopropanolamine.
